look! a t. rex!

they probably didn't have feathers - there are a few small skin impressions of t. rex scales. that said, their ancestors had feathers so its entirely possible that t. rex had feathers on parts of its body for display. It is also possible that baby tyrannosaurs had a downy covering to keep their little bodies warm (little bodies have a harder time keeping a consistent temperature).

sketchy sundays/mysterious monster mondays

get your shit up mofffuuuukazzz!!!

So, yeah we're all going to have a hard time keeping it strictly on Sunday, but I think it's a good exercise to try and at least post 1 new sketch SOMETIME every week. For me it is a good exercise to force myself to come up with new creature concepts. While most of these 1-2 hour concepts are going to be pretty lame, there's always a chance that one of these random ideas will plant a seed for something I can develop later.

Today's Mysterious Monster: The Queil Nelga'a



The Queil Nelga'a are a race of amphibious creatures that live in the swamps far to the south east of the Central Kingdom. They are notoriously murderous and they carve large tombstones for every warrior they slay. These tombstones are not to honor the slain, however. Rather, they are used as weapons, as the Queil Nelga'a believe that if you kill a foe with a slain enemy's marker stone, you own the soul of the enemy whose stone was used as a weapon. The Queil Nelga'ahave a rich and secretive history of sorcery and witch-craft surrounding their murderous practices, and some believe the Queil Nelga'a's more powerful tribal leaders actually command armies of ghosts which can spread plague and cause bad luck for their enemies. Whatever the truth may be, it is certain that if you are traveling in the south eastern swamps and you hear their raspy croaks, you are in dangerous territory and should be wary of surprise attack.

i dunno about you, but the visual style of this one sorta feels almost early disney-ish to me...? something about the layered BG trees and light and tree stump. meh.

A fellow named Doug Simon saw my Danger: Frogs Attack! videos and got in touch with me. After a bit of back and forth he hired me to do sound design (but not the music) for this...



I hope you enjoyed it. Feel free to feed critical feedback on any aspect of this, sound design, animation, character design etc. The director is open to thoughtful feedback and he's planning on doing future adaptations of H.P. Lovecraft's short stories, so anything that can be improved on in future projects will be duly noted! (I would also encourage you to watch their first HP Lovecraft adaptation called "The Terrible Old Man" to see the improvement since the last project...)

Anyway, hope everybody's summer is going rad. Mine is hectic so far, but awesome.

ROCK MONSTERS!!!

I have finally put my Senior film project from college online. Enter the "Children of Stone" page to watch the video at high quality and check out behind the scenes footage, photos and concept art.

Thanks to everyone who made this movie possible. For those who I haven't excitedly told, "Children of Stone" and "Moss: A Tribute" are going to be on TV. I was contacted by a TV station called Mhz Worldview. One of their programmers saw the animated intro to "Children of Stone" on YouTube and apparently liked it enough to want to put the entire film in their block of programming for children and teens.

Since I no longer have to waste my time and money with film festivals, I can also put "Children of Stone" up online. I've put a nice hi-res version on DontMessWithDinosaurs.com and I have also put it up on YouTube for your convenience and ease of sharing.
